Drumree celebrated their first ever U21 hurling success during the year when they got the better of Kildalkey in the ’Special’ final which was played in Kilmessan in late October. 3-5 to 2-2 was the Dunshaughlin parish club’s winning margin.
They laid the foundations for the win in the first half when building up a 2-5 to 0-1 interval advantage. Sean Curley netted the first goal and Dave Crimmins added the second. In addition, Curley hit three points and Crimmins two. The third goal arrived via the hurl of Padraig Shanley.
It was a fine all round team performance from the winners with goalie Johnny Gilsenan, captain Gerard Clarke, Paul Doyle, Curley and Crimmons particularly prominent.
