Drumree/BHG Crowned Minor Champions 2012

Minor Hurling B Championship Final

Drumree/Blackhall Gaels1-16 Rathmolyon/Na Fianna 1-13 (After  extra-time)

Drumree/Blackhall Gaels emerged as winners of this  Division 2 Championship Final after a titanic battle with the Rathmolyon /Na Fianna combination.

This match was played in Dunboyne on Sunday and both sides served up top quality hurling considering the difficult underfoot conditions.

Paul Kelly pulled of a top quality save in the first few minutes. This helped settle the Drumree/BHG team.Liam Carey opened the scoring and it was nip and tuck for the remainder of the first-half,with  the interval scoreline of 7 points each.

After the re-start David Reilly scored a brilliant goal ,but Rathmolyon/Na Fianna kept in touch and scored a goal of their own to leave them leading by two points.Drumree/BHG had a  goal controversially ruled out as the referee brought back play for an earlier infringement.

Still trailing by two points in injury-time,the lads never gave up and Shane Whitty scored two points to leave the sides all square at the end.

The lads were determined to give all they had in extra-time to ensure a historic victory. We scored three unanswered points in the first-half of extra-time and Shane Whitty added another point after the break to give us a four point cushion.Rathmolyon/Na Fianna had nothing to lose and started running at our defence at every opportunity. The Drumree/BHG defence withstood this onslaught to emerge victorious.

In an overall team performance the lads executed the gameplan  devised, to perfection.Special mention has to go to Paddy Smith,Niall Kelly,Diarmuid Christie and David Reilly for outstanding individual performances.
